3rd Annual Fundraising

(Oct 2009)

We are a group of Vietnamese Americans concerned with the welfare and future of our community.  For over 30 years, Vietnamese families have been establishing new roots and building new lives throughout the United States.  In the last five years we have made significant contributions to our political-social environment.  Throughout California, Vietnamese Americans are becoming political, business and social leaders.

HOMEPAGE

Yet, even as we make strides in the community, we face significant challenges. Many Vietnamese Americans struggle with the same obstacles as other Americans - domestic violence, substance abuse, poor academic achievement, and gang violence.  Cultural and linguistic barriers often exacerbate these problems.  Vietnamese Americans exiting the criminal justice system attempt to reintegrate into the community

Without sufficient support systems.  The number of homeless and formerly incarcerated Vietnamese Americans is growing, yet services aimed at meeting this need are almost nonexistent.

Viet Second Chance Family (VSCF), a non-profit agency, was formed in September of 2005 to meet the needs of formerly incarcerated Vietnamese Americans.  It is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of professionals from the Vietnamese community. The intermediate goal of VSCF is to establish a transitional housing program in the community, similar to the sober living environment houses found in Northern California, but with the ability to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of Vietnamese Americans.  The pilot program is planned to begin by April 2008 and will be the first VSCF home, serving five individuals under the supervision of a house manager. Once registered into the program, each guest will be assigned to a qualified mentor who will then coach, guide and work with the guest to obtain and maintain a self-sufficient and productive life.

VSCF is embarking on a new path, responding to the unique cultural and social needs of Vietnamese Americans.  But we cannot do it without your generous contributions. Together we can provide a second chance to those who want to rebuild their lives.
